RAW Boswin and the Gonnabees are a Calgary-based Original Rock Band for hire. We are seeking work in festivals, night clubs and as an opening act.
The core of the band consists of singer/songwriter Rob Oswin (Acoustic/Vox), Greg Carroll (Bass/Vox), Mike King, (Lead guitar/Vox), Sandy Switzer (Pedal Steel) and Gavin Sorochan (Drums/Vox). We occasionally add keyboards/piano when budget allows.
Rob Oswin is the main songwriter and has been writing and performing for over 30 years. Beside penning a significant catalogue of songs, his accomplishments include 1990 Calgary Christmas songwriting contest winner, 1992 FACTOR Grant Recipient, 1993 released Smokin’ Joes self-titled CD, 2000 Release of Rob Oswin “The Hard Way”, 2006 Finalist in the Calgary Folk Festival Songwriting Contest (Alberta Category), 2011 release of RAW Boswin and the Gonnabees “Red Sky CD, and more recently has successfully licensed music to independent feature films, electronic devices and ring-tones.
With Smokin’ Joes, Rob has opened for many acts including The Tubes, The Commitments, Colin James, Doug and the Slugs, Steppenwolf, Kenny Shields, Lee Aaron, Lou Diamond Phillips, Maclean and Maclean and the list goes on.
Rob also owns and operates a recording studio, which allows him to do a lot of recording at his leisure. With no time-constraints, Rob has slowly crafted the makings of his upcoming third CD release and formed the Gonnabees to go out and market the new product.
The RAW Boswin and the Gonnabees' live show is a breath of fresh air. Often mistaken for east-coast music, we call it “Prairie-timer Rock”, and you just have to hear it! Our unique but familiar sound ranges from rock to rockin' country, rockin' blues and rockin' folk. Influences include Elton John, Billy Joel, Supertramp and Pink Floyd with a dash of Tom Cochrane & Red Rider sprinkled in.
Finely crafted original songs are presented with passion and conviction by this veteran line-up of talented and professional musicians. With just the right cover tunes at just the right moment, RAW Boswin and the Gonnabees truly captivate and engage their audience.
