Rachel Eckroth is a pianist, singer and composer of exquisite grace. During her time in performing in New York City, she melded a style that wraps together a variety of jazz and also manages to bear the marks of composers such as Mozart, Scriabin and Prokofiev. Her works are masterfully composed; they show the extent of her skill and her natural ability to tap into expressive emotion. In addition to her own jazz, she has arranged music for jazz ensemble and string quartets, and has a dynamic, agile soprano voice that shimmers over some her original work. Eckroth has extensive training; she earned an MFA in jazz performance from Rutgers under the tutelage of legendary pianist Stanley Cowell, and has studied with world-renowned composers Jim McNeely and Mike Abene. She has a six-disc discography of solo, collaborative and featured work, including LOUDER THAN WORDS (2009) and MIND (2005). She currently lives in Phoenix and is working on a self-titled singer/songwriter EP.
