BIOGRAPHY
Rachel McDowell grew up in the small rural community of Risco, Missouri. As the daughter of country music artists, Jim & Lesa King of The Dirt Road Express, the passion for music was instilled in Rachel very early on. She made her debut as a singer at the age of 3 in her hometown church. Music quickly became a very important part of Rachel's life; music just seemed to be part of a normal routine for her and her family. She tagged along with her parents to every band practice, memorized every song in their set list, and eventually earned a spot on stage with The Dirt Road Express. Rachel traveled with the band to concerts in family oriented venues where each night she performed her rendition of "Hey Good Lookin'".
Throughout her childhood, while most little girls were playing with Barbie dolls and watching cartoons, Rachel was playing with her favorite microphone and memorizing the lyrics to every song on CMT. As Rachel grew, so did her love for music. Once she entered Risco Elementary, she embraced every opportunity to perform. She sang in the Risco Tigerama Talent Show every year, singing and dancing.
At the age of 5, Rachel was introduced to a different genre; gospel. For a family that grew up in church, Jim and Lesa knew they needed a change of pace. They surrendered their hearts and lives to God and decided to play and sing in churches rather than night clubs and bars. Rachel, of course, was right there with them. Later on, Rachel played an important role in her church youth group and drama team, Wake-Up Call, where she served as drama leader. She also helped put together a small praise band within the youth group where she sang and played keys. Today, Rachel and her husband, Mark serve in their church as worship leaders. Together, Mark and Rachel teach their 4 year old daughter, Bailey, the importance of music. While she sings and dances all over their house, Bailey hasn't had the courage to perform publicly yet. Mark and Rachel are still working on her. Rachel is currently a music teacher at Risco School. She teaches elementary children, as well as junior high and high school students. She is very passionate about passing on her love of music to all her students.
Rachel won the Kenny Rogers CP Center Telethon Idol competition in Sikeston, Missouri and the Texaco Country Showdown competition in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She is always looking for new places to sing. If you are interested in booking Rachel McDowell for entertainment at your next event, please contact Jim King at (573) 276-7526
