3 time Award winning Belizean Reggae/Dancehall Artist RAS INDIO has gained his respect in Belize & around the world as the #1 reggae artist representing Belizeans on the international musical map. He Spreads a positive vibe with his unique lyrical delivery, combined with an energetic stage presence that is sure to Light up every stage & Ignite any audience. His musical style is 1 of Traditional African & Belizean elements mixed with the hardcore sound of Roots Reggae, lyrically filled with Inspirational messages of Truth & Righteousness.
Ras Indio, aka David Cynque Obi, was born in Los Angeles, California on September 23, 1976 to Belizean parents, Bredda David Obi & Ms. Beaulah Heusner. His creativity is evident in his Musical Lineage, as his Father is a well-known Belizean musician, and the Innovator of Belizean Kungo Music. As a 9 year old youth, Ras Indio relocated to Belize, learning the keyboards with the Guidance of his Father. He began performing at local events throughout Belize at age 12 as the keyboardist in his Father’s band, "Tribal Vibes". Between the Ages of 15-21, He made annual trips with the band, internationally touring Mexico, USA, & parts of Europe.
Returning to the US in 1994, Indio, along with his cousin Quinn & family friend Mosez, created the 1st ever Belizean – Hip Hop/Reggae/Dancehall group in Los Angeles called “Da Wood Dwellas”. Together they produced 2 underground albums in the U.S. & made several visits to Belize opening for Beenieman, Mr. Vegas, Berres Hammond, & Xstatic. They also made a major Television appearance on MTV, a show called “The Cut” hosted by the Late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez of TLC.
Ras Indio moved back to Belize in 1999 & developed his company, Indigenous Productions embarking on his solo career. His 1st album, released in Belize was entitled "Free up Mi Nation", which featured his number 1 Radio Hit, "Wild Wild West", this song was requested & made it to # 1 on the Top 10 Countdown on Belizean Radio Station, 96.5 KREM FM. This song is still heavily used as an Anti-Violence anthem throughout Belize. After His first release, He, in colaboration with other talented musicians around Belmopan, Belize formed the "Brimstone Family", a 5 piece band with which he still performs. They are known as the Purest, Roots Reggae
band in Belize.
Since 2004 Ras Indio has been touring the USA & parts of Canada. He has shared the stage with many International acts such as, The Wailers, Culture, Third World, Luciano, Ky-Mani Marley, Baby Cham, Queen Ifrica, Maxi Priest and Many others. His work has been chronicled in local Belizean newspapers such as The Belizean Times, The Reporter, & The Amandala. He has since, recorded with some of Reggae’s hugest ambassadors such as Luciano, Turbulence, Lutan Fyah, Chezidek, Norrisman & More. Most of these recordings can be heard on his 2010 release “Jah Bless Us” which was recorded & produced in Seattle, Washington.
