Biography

Rebecca Hovan teaches at Indiana University South Bend and Goshen College. She is a member of the National Flute Association and served the NFA as Chair of the Pedagogy Committee. As a member of the Pedagogy Committee, she has participated in the preparation of several of the Committee's publications, a graded list of flute repertoire (2004) and a companion publication listing etudes, daily studies, and method books (2005). Most recently, the Committee published these two publications in one volume entitled Selected Flute Repertoire and Studies: A Graded Guide. Rebecca is also co-author of the "Blocki Flute Method Book II", an intermediate method for flute (2003, 2nd edition 2005), "Blocki Flute Method Teacher’s Manual Book II, 2nd edition (2006),” and “Supplementary Duets for Blocki Flute Method Book II, 2nd edition (2006). As a performer, she appears regularly in recital and with various ensembles in the Northern Indiana area. She has performed on programs at several conventions of the National Flute Association. Her training includes a Master of Music from the University of North Texas where she was a Teaching Fellow in Flute and studied with Mary Karen Clardy. She was a winner of the National Flute Association’s Masterclass Competition and has presented various pedagogy workshops for the NFA, colleges and universities, and various flute festivals. Recent activities include recording her first CD, A Silver Christmas, released in December 2008.
