Recent Memory is Joyce Bowden and Steven Hall, It is a duo formed in 1994 to keep the songs of Arthur Russell current in their minds. Steven and Joyce were both friends of Arthur's and separately, they were working partners with Arthur on various projects. Joyce was in the later incarnation of the Flying Hearts which Arthur formed together with and Ernie Brooks and Steven had a group called the Sailboats with Arthur. For years Recent memory lay dormant, until one day in December 2008 when Joyce asked Steven to come down to Raleigh NC where she lived to work on the old material again. They recorded everything in four days at Circle Sound Studios in Raleigh with the help of engineer and studio owner Rick Lassiter.
