Rhydian And The Residuals. After Starting an Australian tour, Rhydian And The Residuals recorded an album to sell whilst on tour. After good sales and feedback, they decided to take the next logical step and have made it available for download. There is currently another album in mastering stage which contains some very creative versions of some well known songs from the 80's, and some classic jazz versions of some of our the bands favorites.
Originally born in Wales, UK, Rhydian was given a Frank Sinatra cassette tape at the age of 14 (Come Fly With Me) which he played over and over until he had learnt all the songs and lyrics.
Rhydian sang in UK band “Word of Mouth” in which he had a local hit record with “Fly away” and “Will You Be Mine”? Rhydian has also released 2 other records in the UK, A Double A sided CD “In Love With My Best Friend” and “Give Me One More Chance,” with duet group Lewis & Flett. After failing to make a career out of music, Rhydian decided it was time to follow his other passions, ocean swimming and an outdoor lifestyle and moved to Australia and went back into education to learn how to become a hairdresser.
To earn extra money, Rhydian started singing Michael Bublé songs within Hope Island, Queensland, Australia, in venues such as Mexi’s (now renamed Leo’s), The Hyatt Lounge Veranda Bar (as resident jazz singer), Red Rock Cafe, and within Sanctuary Cove Marina Village, around 2010 and up to present day. Rhydian’s Brisbane Jazz Club debut, covering Sinatra and Bobby Darin songs was at an open mic in 2011. Rhydian was keen to put together a jazz band and luckily found the already formed trio of Fred Cole (piano), Hans Lovejoy (double bass) and Ben Cox (drums) who were performing in the Tattersal Hotel in Lismore NSW.
With over 250 songs under his belt Rhydians’ song knowledge is vast and varied, offering many different feelings and tempos’ within the jazz and swing 1930’s to 1950’s period and up to latter day hits.
