From a grandfather who played Tennessee mountain music clawhammer-style on the banjo, to being an FM-radio DJ in the 70’s & 80’s, to programming a leading new-age station today on Live365, Rick Sparks’ musical influences have been many and diverse.
Rick credits pianists like Kevin Kern, John Adorney and Jim Brickman for musical inspiration for his latest album. “I'm so impressed with how many great artists in this genre use a simple approach to produce powerful, affecting music. That's the path I'm following now with my recordings."
As a radio programmer, Rick has found success in the new-age genre with his online station, The Cove. Since its 2013 debut on Live365, The Cove has risen to the top 10% of 138 stations in the genre on Live365. "Our station imaging statement is 'music to replenish your spirit.' That's my goal for my own music, as well."
As a pianist, Rick Sparks has accompanied many legendary artists over the years, including 5th Dimension’s Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr., and gospel great Alvin Slaughter, of NYC's Brooklyn Tabernacle.
