Rob Roper is a songwriter, singer and guitar player. He was born in Jackson, Mississippi, and grew up in Jackson and Dallas, Texas. College years were spent in Dallas and Houston. He moved to Phoenix, Arizona after college and then Tucson. He moved to Denver, Colorado in 2000 and has been living in Denver ever since.
Roper got his first guitar at the age of 12, but music remained a hobby when he was young. He got more serious about music in his mid-30's.
In Tucson, Arizona, Roper bounced around various bands, then connected with bass player and songwriter Kurt Loken. They made two home recordings on 4-track cassette in 1994-95 under the band name "Faded Innocence". Loken wrote and sang most of the songs and played bass. Roper played guitar, did the arrangements, and handled the recording and mixing.
Roper continued to accompany singer-songwriters on lead guitar in Tucson and then Denver. Then in 2004 he turned to songwriting. Three years later, in 2007, he recorded a DIY CD called "Some Songs I Wrote", and began playing out at small venues in Denver and Boulder, initially solo, then accompanied by Julie Oxenford-O'Brian on violin.
Roper followed "Some Songs" with the EP "Me", recorded in 2009 at Swallow Hill in Denver. Immediately after that, Roper formed a band consisting of Dan Heinrich on drums, Laurie Lamar on bass and backing vocals, and Paul Ermisch on violin. They played several gigs in the Spring and Summer of 2010 in the Denver and Boulder area.
Roper also played venues in the Boston area, Des Moines and Ames, Iowa, the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, and The Netherlands.
In 2010, Roper hired producer John McVey and recorded his first full-length album, "Misfit" at Coupe Studios in Boulder. Roper hired the award-winning team of Greg Carr and Salli Ratts to design the CD artwork and packaging. "Misfit" was released in May 2011.
