Indianapolis native Roger Schmelzer brings a crisp, fresh sound to neglected pop classics and underperformed cabaret gems. His debut CD, "About Now" was described by WFYI-FM as "Chock-full of the sorts of clever lyrics and lush arrangements that characterize songs for intimate settings from the last century to today." About Now has received airplay throughout the United States as well as on radio stations in Australia, New Zealand and the Netherlands.
Roger has headlined, appeared in, written and directed several musical revues and cabaret shows. For his Chicago debut in the Cabaret Room at Davenport’s, Roger wrote "HeartSongs: a Playfully Romantic Cabaret," based on songs from his CD. Consulting on the project was 2007 Manhattan Association of Cabaret & Club Best Female Artist Lina Koutrakos. He recently performed a revised version of the show before a nearly sold out room at The Cabaret @ The Columbia Club in Indianapolis.
As a stage performer, Roger has numerous musical theater roles to his credit and co-starred in the motion picture "587: The Great Train Robbery." He has also been a television commercial spokesperson and done industrial films.
Roger is a supporter of the Michael Feinstein Foundation for the Great American Songbook based in Carmel, Indiana and serves as an officer on the board of directors of The Cabaret @ The Columbia Club. He is also a member of the Chicago Cabaret Professionals. Married to Indianapolis actor Lucinda Phillips, they have three grown children.
