Biography

Roy Zu-Arets, Israeli born, Los Angeles based, is an award winning composer, pianist and music producer and a pioneer of contemporary music, reinvigorating the classical and jazz genres by introducing ethnic and electronic dance music elements into his original compositions.

Zu-Arets has played, scored, conducted and arranged music for indie films such as “When Rabin Got Shot” (2004), “Macheads” (2008), “1906” (2009) as well as theatre shows for Off Broadway productions such as “One Hundred Gates” featuring Elliot Gold, “The American Jew”, “Bridges and Harmonies” and “In the Realm of Chelm” a production of the Juilliard School of Drama.

Zu-Arets has also played, scored and produced award winning albums and concerts for leading American, European and Israeli artists including Taking Back Sunday’s “Where You Want to Be” (Gold Certification), David Broza, David D’Or, Patrick Bruel, Omar Hakim, Jack Daley, Rita (2 x Platinum Certification) and Gidi Gov.

Zu-Arets's classical compositions include orchestral, choral, chamber, electro acoustic and solo works. His original composition “The Zrazuvian Colour”, a piece calling for a marimba and four cellos, was premiered at The 12th Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival in September 2009 and performed by Asaf Roth, Frans Helmerson, Nicolas Altstaedt, Kyril Zlotnikov and Zvi Plesser.

Trained in classical piano theory and music composition, Zu-Arets studied at the Israeli Conservatory of Music in Tel Aviv, The Juilliard School and The Mannes School of Music in NYC with Stanley Wolfe, Carl Schachter and Dr. Robert Cuckson.
