Ryan Rumery

Ryan Rumery is a musician, composer, and sound designer living in Brooklyn, New York. His primary instruments are drumset, hand and mallet percussion, piano, and guitar.  

Currently he is producing an album for The Joy of Harm, featuring Jacob Valenzuela from Calexico, and recorded by Craig Schumacher at Wavelab, in Tucson.

Ryan also plays piano and drumset with The Painted Bird, a dance piece by Palissimo, Inc. and also plays drumset in the Colorado-based bands The Whale Tales and The Broken Spoke, both Indie-Country groups performing in Colorado and the Midwest.  

As a composer/musician in Palissimo’s The Painted Bird Trilogy he has performed at Baryshnikov Arts Center, La Mama, PS122, Legion Arts, and The Wexner Center for the Arts.

Recently, he performed his score live for The Master Builder at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), featuring John Turturro.

Ryan recently released his first two EPs, albums of songs composed for 4000 Miles in April 2012, and for Ivanov, in November 2012. Both are available on Bandcamp.

His film credits include SyncroNYCity, Gatewood, and Flower Man. his music has been used in other films currently in production. 

His theatre work has been heard across the United States, including the Broadway production of Thurgood starring Laurence Fishburne, which has also been seen on HBO.

His recent theater work includes: All in the Timing (Primary Stages); What Rhymes with America (Atlantic); The Submission (Manhattan Class Company); 4000 Miles (Lincoln Center); Ivanov, The Cherry Orchard, Three Sisters, Orlando, Uncle Vanya (Classic Stage Company); The Emperor Jones (Irish Rep., Lortel Nomination);  and Anna Deavere Smith’s Let Me Down Easy (National tour including Berkeley Rep, Geffen Playhouse, Arena Stage, etc.)
