BM in Music Composition, 1980, Peabody Conservatory of Music, Baltimore MD. Artist-in-Residence for Sangamon State Univ's "Blues in the Schools" program. Instructor in guitar, Lincoln College, 1983. Guitarist with Gina, Dean and Scoundrel, 1984-86, 7-piece showband playing hotels and casinos throughout the US and Canada. Guitarist with the Frank Trompeter Quintet, 1993-96, which played the Ashikaga Jazz Festival in Japan in 1995. Active with own groups since that time: The Sam Crain Quartet(1998-2006), which performed at the Washington St Jazz Festival in 2004; The Sam Crain Trio(2006-present). Appeared as guitarist on the first CD by Senses(Looking for your Face) in 2007.
