Sam Newsome

Sam Newsome is one of the leading soprano saxophonists on today’s music as well as assistant professor of jazz studies at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus. He has toured the world many times with own groups as well as with jazz luminaries as Leon Parker, Terence Blanchard, Bruce Barth, Jean-Michel Pilc, Lucian Ban, Ugonna Okegwo and many others. Mr. Newsome has also appeared in the Downbeat Critics Polls for the past eight years as one of the top "Rising Stars” in the Soprano Saxophone category. In addition, he has received numerous grants from the Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC), NYSCA, and Meet the Composer, and has recorded 10 CDs as a leader and has appeared on over 50 as a side-person.
