My current musical focus is on composing contemporary music for the 12 string guitar that will allow me to share the beautiful sound of the instrument with as many people who will listen & enjoy it!
I play my own style that I've cultivated from many varied musical influences over the years. It's not jazz, blues, R & B, classical, bluegrass, country, rock, pop, punk, world beat. hip-hop, trip-hop, disco, techno, emo, trance or or new age. Well maybe it would be classified in some new age genre! My main influence would have to be original Genesis guitarist Anthony (Ant) Phillips. Ant really helped shape Genesis' overall sound with interwoven open-tuned 12 string guitars. It's a sound that really drew me to the instrument years ago, but only recently have I really decided to focus on the 12 string guitar as my primary means of musical expression. I use open tunings exclusively which add an even richer, heavenly texture to the 12 strings. I'm not a fingerstyle guitarist per se but incorporate similar picking patterns using just a flat pick. The primary motivation for my compositions is to provide a musical vehicle to convey the lush, beautiful sound and nuances of the 12 string guitar to the listener.
The list that follows is a broad overview of the many bands or artists whose music has captured my attention over the past 35 years and whose sonic qualities have helped shape my overall approach to composing for the 12 string guitar.
