"SeaStar is a blend of both the old and the new, the tranquil and passionate, the dramatic and playful. They are equal parts storyteller and muse, weaving a tapestry of poetry and music while leaving enough breathing room for the audience to dream and contemplate" (Seattle Night Out)
".. folky, passionate, Celtic-y....you had my heart dancing!" (Index Arts Fest)
"..the voice... I thought I was listening to an angel..." (Yakima Folklife)
SeaStar is a Seattle-based original Celtic and folk music group created in 1997 by singer-songwriter Fae Wiedenhoeft.
SeaStar has played at respected Seattle venues such as Sunset Tavern, High Dive, The Rendezvous, and The Comet Tavern in Seattle, but also has an avid following on the North and East side of King County. They've played a variety of music festivals, including the Northwest Folklife Festival in Seattle, The Fremont Solstice Parade After party, and the Index Arts Fest, in addition to playing festivals abroad, such as the Pan Celtic International Music Festival in Carlow, Ireland and The Harvest Festival in Goreme, Turkey . This fall, SeaStar played to thousands of music fans from twenty-two different countries at the Perthshire Amber Music Festival in Scotland, capping of its tour at Perth Hall, where musicians the likes of Van Morrison have played. Though their star is rising, SeaStar is a band equally at home playing music in intimate settings as well as large televised concerts.
After the successful release of their first studio album, Home, SeaStar recorded their follow up release North Winds on analogue reel to reel tape and released the album in October of 2013 to popular and critical acclaim. The album, featured on Guitar Center Singer Songwriter 3 and the No Depression music site, blended old musical traditions with new approaches to storytelling and musicianship, winning the Bob Kotta Songwriting Contest for the song Sailor. The album quickly sold out its initial stock in Scotland and on CD Baby. Wiedenhoeft's nuanced, classically-trained vocals, fingerstyle guitar and song-writing backed by Kelly Blanchard's dreamy, pop-infused guitar and vocals set a lavish table for Michael Falcone's vocal harmonies and piano/percussion work, with all of it grounded by classic-rock-rooted bass player Adam "Captain" Chambers' warm and mellifluous fret work.
The band continues to push limits and takes chances. Each show has a colourful and different feel. SeaStar values its time with its fans and strives to keep it fresh and exciting!
