Sean O'Brien is currently one of the world's leading exponents of Irish Dance Music. Over a 15 year period Sean has played at feisanna across the US, Ireland, the UK, Europe and Australasia and has performed at almost every major championship including the All Irelands and World Irish Dance Championships. He is one of the most sought after feis musicians currently on the circuit due to his dynamic, rhythmic style of playing as well as his versatility in comfortably and competently moving deftly between the accordion and the piano.
An accomplished Irish dancer himself, winning both State and Australian titles, Sean toured worldwide as a dancer with Riverdance's Liffey company from 2001 to 2004. Towards the end of this time he worked closely with the show's band, playing piano on his final tour in '04.
In recent years, Sean has toured and recorded with numerous artists, including folk pop act '6 Day Riot' and latin funk 8 piece 'Ballalouda'. In addition, he has composed music featured in Broadway production 'Noctu', as well as stage show 'Irish Celtic'. Other of his compositions have been recorded by bands such as award winning contemporary folk group 'Kayna'.
Today Sean performs at irish dance feisanna all around the globe. He is the pianist for 'Esther Dee & The Carousel' as well the creator of 'The Propheteer' project which is set to be launched later in '13. He is currently touring with stage show 'Irish Celtic' and continues to work with a number of independent artists in London, both on stage and in the studio.
Sean resides in North London, where he enjoys an ever emergent love for gardening, a straight up, fully realised, somewhat addictive love for the amazing coffee sold in the cafe around the corner and the ever growing community of wisdom and empathy in which he feels humbled to find himself, made possible only by the friendly folk he has the honour to be co-creating it with.
