"There is something about a three piece band that I’ve always loved. Maybe it’s the fact that everyone is pulling equal weight, every member usually has something going on at all times. Serial Hawk is one of the latest bands to really catch my attention. The band sounds so massive live; you can’t help but watch closely. The trio brings the big, slow, molasses-style riffs, with an intensity that is as infectious as it is brooding. The band was formed as a two piece in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood in the basement practice space of the band By Sunlight, by guitarist/vocalist Will Bassin. Since then, they have been playing shows since 2010, in several venues all over Seattle and the West Coast. Bassist Adam Holbrook was added after the bands second show, giving the band the burly low end it needed. After putting out a well received 7 song demo in May of 2011, Serial Hawk added Drummer Justin Rodda to the line-up. The band shortly after started working on their debut EP “Buried in the Gray”. Engineered and mixed by Adam Pike at Toadhouse Studios and mastered by Levi Seitz at Black Belt Mastering, the album is full of thick sounding guitar and bass tones, and sounds as big as bands with twice the members. It’s warm, maintaining the abrasive sound the band has become known for performing live, while the tracks are more structured and absolute. Additional vocals have been added from the tracks formed from the demo recordings, adding another dynamic to the band without distracting from any of the other finer points. The EP will be released on 12” Vinyl available at serialhawk.com via Made in China, as well as at live shows, and will also include a digital download card for your pieces of technology."
