Shamik

Shamik is a beatboxer/ MC/ DJ/ producer based in Vancouver who has performed in 15 countries and 5 continents. He has toured with Method Man & Redman, Bassnectar, Tanya Tagaq, DJ Q-Bert, DJ Kentaro, Sub Swara, and collaborated on stage for multiple dates with Z-Trip, Killa Kela, Skream, Excision, Freq Nasty, Fort Knox Five, Mat The Alien, and X-Ecutioners. Shamik has also performed with various bands including Oka, Thievery Corporation, Delhi 2 Dublin, Salmonella Dub, and Beats Antique. He has showcased at festivals such as Rothbury (USA), Shambhala, Vancouver Island Musicfest, Victoria Jazz Festival, Bass Coast Project, Astral Harvest, Edmonton Folkfest (Canada), Mood Indigo, Sunburn (India), Colours of Ostrava (Czech Republic), Southbound, Peats Ridge, Sub Sonic (Australia), and Dubplate (Philippines). He has also showcased at critically acclaimed events such as Turntables on the Hudson (New York), Non Stop Bhangra (San Francisco), Bass Drive (Montreal), Bass Republic (Saigon), Espionage (Melbourne), Bass Foundation (New Delhi), and Funk Fever (Beijing). In Vancouver, he performed at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, TEDx, New Forms Festival, Vancouver Jazz Festival, and Vancouver Celebrates Diwali.

He has proven that beatboxing knows no boundaries by performing with 12-time Grammy winning dobro player Jerry Douglas (Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?). He also opened for 10-time Grammy winner George Benson with Juno winner Kellylee Evans. In 2011, Kevin Carroll and Shamik presented a live globally streamed excerpt from their Katalyst web series as TED2012 finalists at TED headquarters in New York. With 2 solo albums and 4 EP's under his belt, Shamik has made guest appearances on releases by Subvert (Rottun), Sub Swara (Low Motion), Knight Riderz (Made In Glitch), Kush Arora (High Chai), Grasp The Erro (Bombeatz Ink), Woodhead (East Van Digital), and Jpod (Swing Set Sounds). He was a guest on Tanya Tagaq's 'Auk' album, which also featured Mike Patton (Faith No More) and Buck 65. Fresh off his 4th Australia tour, Shamik has plans for more releases and performances in 2013!
