Shamik is a beatboxer/ MC/ DJ/ producer based in Vancouver. He has performed in 15 countries and 5 continents. His festival highlights in Canada are Shambhala, Bass Coast, Edmonton Folkfest, Astral Harvest, Victoria Jazzfest, and Vancouver Island Musicfest. Overseas his festival highlights are Colours of Ostrava (Czech Republic), Southbound, and Peats Ridge (Australia), Mood Indigo, Sunburn (India), Dubplate (Philippines), and Rothbury (USA). In Vancouver he has performed at TEDx, New Forms Festival, Vancouver Jazzfest, and the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. He has toured with Method Man & Redman, Bassnectar, Q-Bert, Kentaro, Sub Swara, Beats Antique, Tanya Tagaq and performed live with Kellylee Evans, Mat The Alien, Skream, Delhi 2 Dublin, Z-Trip, Killa Kela, Oka, Skratch Bastid, Felix Zenger, and Salmonella Dub. He has showcased at critically acclaimed worldwide events such as Bass Drive (Montreal), Espionage (Melbourne), Bass Foundation (New Delhi), Turntables on the Hudson (New York City), Non Stop Bhangra (San Francisco), and Bass Republic (Ho Chi Minh). He has also opened for George Benson, Dub FX, Flying Lotus, Rusko, Girl Talk, Excision, The Glitch Mob, Kool Herc, Andy C, Craze, Marky, and Flo Rida. His beatbox tutorial video with Skratchy Seal (voiced by DJ Q-Bert) has over 100 000 views on Youtube.
Shamik has released 2 full length solo albums and 4 EP’s. He has also collaborated on releases by Subvert (Rottun), Sub Swara (Low Motion), Grasp The Erro (Bombeatz), Jpod (Swing Set Sounds), Kush Arora (High Chai), Woodhead (East Van Digital), and Numbersix (East Van Digital). Tanya Tagaq featured Shamik on 3 songs on her Juno nominated Auk album which also included Mike Patton of Faith No More, Buck 65, and Jesse Zubot. Shamik and author / speaker Kevin Carroll were finalists for TED 2012 and presented a live globally streamed talk at TED headquarters in New York. After touring the world as a beatboxer and MC, Shamik has shifted into focusing on production. He looks forward to more collaborations, releases, and performances in 2013.
