Shorty Garrett tills the territory between earthy alt-country americana and 60's backporch jug band music...often reflecting on the local color of the Pacific Northwest.
The first two albums -Shorty Garrett of Bent Willow- and - 8 Songs Of Christmas- are one man bands, all Shorty all the time.
-Sharp Objects- was recorded before the solo releases and features additional musicians resulting in a more polished and full band sound. Put on those retro dancing shoes, and turn it up.
-Postcards From Orpheus- was recorded in tandem with Sharp Objects(it is not out-takes) and features the same studio and musicians. The mixes are the thing here...some are working mixes, some are pro mixes from the same studio Sharp Objects was mixed by, one is mixed by Shorty and one is live in studio. The sources vary from cassette tape to adat tape to rough cd mixes, all mastered to tape by Dead Aunt Thelmas in Portland giving the whole thing a cohesiveness. This album represents the definitive versions of the songs, which were "lost" at one point and saved by using this patchwork process. This album is currently available only as downloads, no physical cd, artwork by shortygarrett.
Some songs feature only Shorty and segue nicely into his solo efforts.... Shorty considers it his favorite. (right now anyways)
