Sienná

Biography

She is an awake-walking daydreamer, a blurry contrast of multiple styles, an illusionist of the vivid pastel sound, a contemporary traditionalist, and a reflection of the modern crossover cultures. The grooving, flourishing and atmospheric electronica where East meets West in a quirky way: it´s SIENNÁ.

This Norway based artist from ancient Kyoto Japan, composes to tell a dream-like story, plays the synthesizers by ear, sings her heart out, and approaches you with plenty of fire in her belly. She has been compared to the likeness of Underworld, Björk and Ryuichi Sakamoto.

However, everything does not fall into only one place in her world. Her sound preference ranges from freestyle electronica, nujazz, ambient, house, psychedelic, classical to Japanese traditional music. She re-shapes them effortlessly into an intelligent fusion of dreamy electronic soundscapes on the clubbing beats with some odd oriental twists and cut-ups. Since her debut in 2005, she has released 3 CDs and gained underground status due to her original approach to the modern electronica genre. We must also mention that the 4th CD is on its way out in summer 2012.

Testimonials:
“Amazing crossover features, from a Jazz infusion t a cute sort of Electro wizardry. There are also some tasty dream-sequence excerts that could lend the set to a decent film producer with a vivid imagination (Someone like Tarantino). The quirky strange tracks that lie within the covers add to a cult mysticism that makes you want to play it again (Pro Mobile Magazine, UK)”
- “The veteran sweeping synth pads and reverberating blips all set a specific mood the instant it begins (Adam Irving: Blues and Soul Magazine, UK)”
- “It ´s definitely worth a try for people who like house music who are a little more intelligent than the stereotypical lover of said art (Matt Gardner: Sound Screen, UK)”
- “The best music can lift you out of your everyday life and transport you somewhere else. If I close my eyes while listening to Sienna, I can almost imagine I'm in a trendy wine bar. Some cut-up, glitchy beats and some nice atmospherics (Andy Glynn: Tasty Fanzine, UK)”
-“This sophomore album showcases an artist who is at ease with a mix of genres and textures. Drawing upon her cross-cultural background, the ten tracks glide along smoothly ranging from dance grooves to jazzy rhythms to newage chill (Martin Raybould: Whisperin & Hollerin, UK)”
- “A richly-textured bed of melodic layers, freeform electronic and jazzy flourishes which becomes the deepest house in the galaxy when the groove kicks in (Kris Needs: Update Magazine, UK)”
- “Sleek, atmospheric and hectic like Underworld (Eddie Robson: New Noise, UK)”
- “There are similarly neat flourishes on display peppered throughout the album, perhaps most striking on “Dance Of The White Rhythms‟, in which nu-jazz meets a chanting priest (Polis Louzou: Last Broadcast, UK)
- “Dreamy, atmospheric, and laced with synthy basslines, beats and interesting vocal samples (EMusician Xtra, USA)”.
- “It is interesting how the music highlights various meeting points between electronica, club-music and jazz-inspired elements (Erik Steinskog: Bergens Tidende, Norway)
- “Some of the lyrics are inspired by old buddhistic prayers and Japanese traditional songs. The music itself is clearly of European electronic influence, with minimal beats supported by e-organs, synths as well as jazz-influences. This is certainly a nice mixture (Subcity Radio, UK)
- “It gets its grooves on with an insistent thumping beat. There is an interesting artist operating somewhere in this electronic maze: it would be nice to hear her emerge more. (Kevin Renick: Playback Magazine, USA)
- “A stunning electro-ambient sounds of oriental atmosphere with mellow melodies on efficient bass grooves (Sound Disco-Club, Japan)”
- “Her music has the influence of Abòn in the experimental section but due to the female identity, creates a more sensational atmosphere (Skylight Magazine, Greece)”
- “It grabbed my attention with beautiful experimental-ambient electronic pieces featuring a warm keyboard wash, echoing female vocals and light tinkling programming (Neo-Zine, USA)”
- “Even though it absolutely has its doses with backward-leaned & relaxing sequences, rock-ish elements often appear and break the patterns. The blend of those elements makes the music interesting (Øyvind Lien: Oppland Arbeiderblad, Norway)”
