My name is Chris and I’m part of the band Sir Leo. We’re a rock band out of Chicago, Illinois. I can’t remember exactly how we got the name Sir Leo but I think at first we were toying with the idea of a one word band name (which is universally considered cool). One of us came up with ‘Surlio’ but then decided that was too corny, and not at all cool. However, it kind-of sounded like “Sir Leo”, so we went with that.
Brian and I started this band with an album’s worth of songs written in his basement - we used to play in a cover band through graduate school and once that broke up we had nothing to do on Thursday nights. At some point in 2006, we outgrew the basement sessions and decided to get a rhythm section – the songs were bigger than Downers Grove, and besides, The People were asking to hear them.
It’s now years later and we’re starting to get good at this. We play shows, we semi-democratically write new music, and we record. Our first EP, Six Crimes, was released in April 2009 to great acclaim in the underground Japanese blog-o-sphere. Six Crimes puts visionary alternative, Chicago independence, the love-child of Radiohead and Tool, and anti-emo sensibilities into a blender and turns it on medium. It’s a psychedelic little thirty-minute sonic journey, recorded with Matt Mercado (Mind Bomb, Supermercado) at Sonic Palace Studios. Thanks for listening.
