Christopher Gennert was born February 27th, 1969 in Santa Monica, California to musical parents. He was improvising on the piano and banging on pots & pans when he was three. At age ten, his parents wisely signed him up for drum lessons and music camps. This encouragement resulted with Chris playing in the first of his several blues, rock and reggae bands at age fourteen around the San Francisco Bay Area. Then in 1987, he was deeply inspired by a performance of reggae giant Burning Spear. From that night on, he felt drawn exclusively towards reggae music and in 1988, recorded his first dub album, “Paradise Valley Dub” which is being digitally remastered for release at a later date.
After 25+ years of performing live at gigs and festivals up & down the Western United States, he teamed up with his brother (recording engineer and guitarist Tim Gennert) to fulfill his long-time dream of producing dub albums as Sonic Dub Experience. Recording in the multi-track fashion, Chris lays down an authentic drum track played by hand on a real drumset. He then overdubs the bass, piano, organ, synthesizers and melodica, the instrument popularized by Jamaican musician Augustus Pablo, to whom Chris dedicates his eponymous first album, "Sonic Dub Experience". .
