Sons of an Illustrious Father
In the summer of 2007, Sofia Albam and Lilah Larson began their musical collaboration, playing old folk, country, and blues covers. They performed as a duo—and for a time as a trio, with cellist Jake Sokolov-Gonzalez—in and around the New York metropolitan area over the course of the next two years, becoming legitimate songwriters in their own right. They were then joined by multi-instrumentalist Jake Generalli and drummer Ezra Miller both of whom began contributing their own songs to the group. Within their first month as a band, Sons of an Illustrious Father recorded and released their self-titled, full length debut album together.
With their unique set of four songwriter/singers, Sons of an Illustrious Father is a truly collaborative band. Their individual and group versatility allow for the exploration of a variety of genres and the realization of the musical vision of each of the four songwriters.
Combining folk, blues, country, and early gospel forms and aesthetics with punk’s raw emotionality and drive, Sons has a sound at once both ancient and modern, both eclectic and distinctly American. Rockland Magazine exclaims: "[They] will blow your heart to bits!"
