Biography

Marta Burton has held audiences spellbound in theatres and concert halls throughout the U.S. and abroad. She has starred with dozens of major orchestras in the critically acclaimed "A Celtic Celebration" including the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center, the Detroit Symphony and the National Symphony Orchestra in Ottawa. Her performances have been described as “hauntingly beautiful” and “radiant.”

Since her move from New York City to Denver, Marta has continued to solo across the country while developing and producing her own concert programs from her home in Denver. Her concerts , "Amazing Grace: Songs of Faith and Folk" and "A Celtic Midwinter" feature some of Denver’s finest performers. In March of 2008, "Southern Journey" was featured at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House along with Bruce Cockburn and Nancy Griffith for the Swallow Hill Folk & Roots Festival.

In 2007 she co-produced the album, "They Slice the Air" for The Spirituals Project and released her second solo album, "Amazing Grace: Songs of Faith and Folk"--both available on CDBaby. She has directed and co-directed concerts to benefit New Orleans Hurricane Relief, Bread for the Journey and The Interfaith Alliance. She just released her new album, "Southern Journey: Tribute to Alan Lomax."

Inspired by the enormous talents of her Colorado colleagues, she co-founded The Colorado Mu,sicians Consortium a group of artists dedicated to creating high quality, innovative music by combining their collective energy and resources and seeing each other’s projects to fruition. Among these are the chamber opera, "who are you, little i" based upon the poetry of E. E. cummings and "Sand-Between-the-Toes", a program of new songs inspired by the poetry of A. A. Milne. Marta is currently performing in and recording both projects in Colorado.
