Lost in the forests of a dream, Andy Rooney came up with this project on a windy night of 2007, under the light of a SPELLED MOON.
Since its conception Andy wanted Spelled Moon to start its journey in a professional studio environment. Styled on an eclectic mix of Power Metal and Neo Classical flavors with movie scoring backgrounds, Spelled Moon went into gear.
Andy Started producing and working with Tony Bongiovi’s Power Station’s studios main manager, Rob Roy, and chief engineer, David Levy in Florida, at the dawn of ’08.
Soon after, Patrick Johansson (Yngwie Malmsteen), joins the team to play and record mighty drums…
16 tales were written and recorded for this first album, and the magic began.
In 2009, conversations started with Claudio Pesavento (studio keys for Dokken / Jeff Beck and foreigner) about taking over on the Keyboards work. During that year, Daniel Trajtemberg (Rata Blanca / Mario Ian and Devenir) was hired to be the visual director, illustrator and photographer for Spelled Moon’s logo, album covers, and web page.
In 2010, Andy decided that he was going to move to California, the heartland of American metal and hard rock, to keep recording the debut album. So after building his own studio called, Black Gates, recording sessions resumed.
During 2011, Ralph Rieckermann (Scorpions) joined this crusade and took over the bass position for the project…
Towards the end of 2012, “Forsaken Spells” was born. This EP is a compilation of legends and every day situations masked in fantasy tales. Some of them rooted on real life characters from centuries ago. Every song has and is based on a story that each one of you will find a different meaning to.
The main priority was a that all the people involved would love the project. Endless hours, weeks and months were spent to make sure that this little taster was ready. “Forsaken Spells,” fulfills the expectations of this band’s capabilities.
“Forsaken Spells” contains a previously unreleased Scorpion’s song (written by Ralph Rieckermann and Grace Sharington) now called “Hidden in the Winds” (lyrics and arraignments by Andy Rooney). The following power ballad, “Soul Mates,” chronicles a man’s struggle to cope with the lost of his eternal lover. Last but not least, the clincher of the trio is a thunderous call to battle aptly named “ a War of Shadows.”
Dave Jenkins (Uli John Roth, Joe Lynn Turner, Matt Sorum, etc.) was chosen as the engineer to mix and develop soundwise the identity of this band. “Forsaken Spells” was mixed at The Wine Cellar Studios on December 2012 . For the mastering part, Brad Vance at Red Mastering (Ritchie Blackmore's Night, Cannibal Corpse, etc. ), was selected. He got it mastered on XMAS day, 2012.
Now with a whole team and a strategy, Spelled Moon keeps writing and recording its story; plus, SM has plans for a full length album to be out by the end of 2013.
