'Splatter' consists of Anna Kaluza (alto sax), Noel Taylor (clarinet), Raúl Monsalve (electric bass guitar) and Pharoah S Russell (drums). Julie Kjaer (flute and alto sax) also plays with the group but is not featured on 'Music for Misanthropes'. The group membership is made up of several nationalities - German, Venezualan, Danish and British. 'Splatter' have been playing together for over a year, developing an improvisational understanding of each other's playing that gives them the confidence to play gigs without a rehearsed set.
Anna Kaluza, from Berlin, trained under Frank Gratkowski and did a Performance Masters in London. She is a member of the London Improviser's orchestra and also plays with the group Futúr in Germany. Raúl Monsalve met Anna Kaluza whilst studying for a Masters in Ethnomusicology at City University. He leads his own band, eponymously named 'Monsalve' and they recently released the CD 'Mecha'. He also plays with Latin songsters, 'Cabezon Key'. Noel Taylor is a member of the 'London Improviser's Orchestra', and has released music with his former group, 'Uncle Rabbit' as well as free improv on the net labels, 'Headphonica' and 'Clinical Archives'. Pharoah S Russell is a drummer much in demand, having performed and/or recorded with Jason Yarde, The Noisettes, Emilliana Torinni, Tom Arthurs, Cirque De Soleil, Shabaka Hutchings, Stella Chiweshe, Seweto Kinch, and many others.
