Like most renowned artists Trace Millis aka Stalence, developed a connection to music during early childhood via his church in Moneague St.Ann,Jamaica.His growing childlike fascination even led to the production of his own recordings done over his mothers gospel tapes despite the fact that he would be strongly reprimanded if caught. His passion could not be ignored and so music lessons were finally introduced when he was caught by his school teacher Ms.Walker, as he used the classroom desk to make beats while shouting scattered melodies from his yearning soul. She became his first music coach.
He relocated from his rural environment to Stand pipe in Kingston at age 10 where he was introduced for the first time to sound systems by a friend, DJ spragga who further added to the development of his talent. He would practice on his own just for fun and love for music everyday after school using an old tape player,a truck battery for power and a broken head phone as his mic.He was once again discovered at his new school at providence primary in Kingston and was this time around given the opportunity to perform for the entire school body. After graduating school in kingston he had to once again relocate to the country as his mother and great grand mother struggled to keep the family afloat.
After the death of his great grandmother and the absence of both parents who were by this time in separate locations searching for better lives Stalence automatically took on the role of the head of his household. He was only 14 years old. While his grandmother and then guardian cared for the rest of his siblings and extended family members who were also minors at home ,he juggled both school and work to ensure their basic survival needs were met. He became proficient in farming and still managed to excel in his academic endeavors. This proved to be a very difficult period however, music remained a part of his focus as he would still manage to find the time to attend late dancehall sessions held momentarily in his community. His experience of struggle developed strength of character and forms some of the content now reflected in his music. He migrated to the United States in care of his dad in 1997 where he continues to persue his music career and has made remarkable impressions on numerous performances including Greek Fest held in 2001 with an audience of over 10 thousand patrons. His aim is to make his mark in the Industry with his own unique trend and style.
