STATE OF MIND is the Nom de Guerre of Kim Bonfils, a Danish keyboard player and multi instumentalist, with a long career as backing musician in bands on the Danish art rock scene.
The music is a combination of singer/songwriter tradition and lo-fi electronica, inspired by the likes of Daniel Johnston (State of Mind has made a cover of Johnstons Poor You), Brian Eno, Leonard Cohen, and Serge Gainsbourg.
State of Mind is produced on the dogma that all instruments should be played by Kim Bonfils, resulting in a largely drumless sound with keyboards and vocals playing the predominant role.
The thematics of State of Mind is always the exploration of the mind's trickery, that often leaves us as helpless bystanders to our own life.
This is reflected in the notion of the MYOTONIC Goat, a special breed of goat with the unusual trait that it cramps up when faced with danger. While this is a less than self supporting habit, the myotonic goats has never the less been used for deflecting predators by sheep farmers.
The music of State of Mind is centered around similar traits in the human mind, always pointing out the futile repetitions in both love and the mundane life. And sometimes sketching a way out.
