Emotionally charged international artist Stephanie Westdal brings a ‘euphoric jolt’ to the music world. Westdal is releasing her 2nd album, a self-titled solo album, as an independent artist. She has created 10 “intensely gripping, moving, heartfelt” songs that bare her soul. “I am extremely proud of this album and feel intimately connected to every song. Music is my life. Singing and songwriting to me is like food, air, breathing.”
Westdal’s new self-titled solo album is an adventurous work reflecting her continuous evolution as an artist. The album takes listeners on a journey through exotic experiences, heart wrenching personal loss and simple enjoyment of living. Recorded in Canada with producer Chris Burke-Gaffney, the album in many ways brings Westdal back to her roots and simultaneously on a new journey. “Working with Chris has been a fantastic eye opening collaboration. He has instinctively tapped into the ‘guts’ of each song with acute attention to detail as well as the overall experience.”
Westdal’s music career has spanned time and space, continents and cultures. Currently living and performing in Istanbul, Turkey (via Africa, Europe, Canada and the Middle East), she is continuously writing new material, often experimenting with different genres and themes. “Born in big, beautiful Canada and having travelled extensively from a young age… brewed this insatiable desire to travel and experience the world, live in other countries, engage in new places visually and through, sound, smell, taste. ” Taking inspiration from her travels and fearlessly questioning life’s sometimes brutal lessons, Westdal writes provocative, excruciatingly honest soul revealing songs. Her voice has been described as achingly evocative, engaging, angelic… her songwriting as gifted, gorgeous, flashes of brilliance…
Stephanie started her professional music career as founding member, singer, songwriter and guitarist for Canadian based band “Chains on 20”. The band released their debut album ‘Finally’ in conjunction with the CBC. They toured extensively in Canada, performing for CBC’s ‘Hot off the Docks’ series and performing live on radio and TV. The album’s featured single, “Bleed” received national video play on Much Music Canada as well as Canadian radio stations.
