Born in London in 1959, Stephen Harrison is a singer and song writer currently living near St Andrews, Scotland. He has a natural way with words arrived at harmoniously with strong haunting melodies. His subject matter is sometimes autobiographical, self critical, touching upon a dreamlike unconscious, and often apparently concerning pessimism, unrequited or lost love and more recently found love. Some songs are about specific people or situations, others are from his imagination. He has been writing songs from an early age and this has always been a significant part of his self expression. Early musical influences included the bands at the tail end of the sixties, such as The Beatles, Leonard Cohen, The Doors, Simon and Garfunkel. In the late 70's He was a member of Edinburgh post punk band Metropak, which took on board many of the sounds of that era, in particular, The Fall, Pere Ubu, The Clash, Devo.
In recent years he has developed has own personal style of songwriting that has emphasis on strong melody and hook lines, clear and emotional vocals, and arrangemaents that feel right to him and to each song rather than a verse/chorus formula. He is currently releasing his material on his own label called Close Up Records Uk and over the last four years has released four albums, the latest of which is 'The Colour Of Black Is Black'
