"Took myself a little trip out
there on the road. Minnesota
once Lakota - riding the plateaus.
And I dreamed of Indians out there fighting for their lives, thought about the pioneers.
Gets awful cold out there at night...."

From Aj:
Building and Living the Backwoods Way
No running water, electricity, hand mixing cement, laying course after course of wood, lime, & stone - while swatting clouds of mosquitoes. Every mason will tell you that working with lime plasters is hard labor and unforgiving, but a totally rewarding experience. After 2 summers and a little help from my friends, I had a very snug, beautiful little (900 sq ft) house to live in..with a cost of about three thousand dollars and just wee bit of sweat equity. I didn't hear anymore snickering.
Girls can build. They can sing too.

OK. I'm a writer. A songsmith. A builder. And long ago - a tipi dweller. In the "Still of the Night", you could find me nestled inside this tipi with a fire crackling, scribbling lots of lyrics and fingerpicking a strains of Joe Pass - Folk style. 13 summers in northern Michigan - and 18 winters in Dallas TX, working at Strictly Tabu Jazz Bistro, listening to some amazing players and serving up Italian specialties. Anyone who found the Tabu room will remember what a fantastic place it was for both.
Fast Forward: 2010
Joining with my best friend now husband of ten+ years, we travel cross country, restoring vintage buildings, print tee shirts, (www.artisantees.com) -and sing a few songs in between. Coming from Ann Arbor, Michigan, I grew up appreciating architectural design and driving into Calumet, Michigan fall of 2009 hooked us like no other town. The price was right for some remodel projects as well - so here we are. http:///www.stonemice.com/calumet.html

So far, I've not found a whole lot of musicians that get together like northern Florida jams, or Traverse City songwriters - money seems to have changed that attitude..but with a little luck, I'm gonna find me some and who knows - there might be a music project on the burner by winter.

peace, Aj
