Swamp Cabbage

Biography

“Rootsy, southern-fried blues doesn’t come much more boggy than Swamp Cabbage.” Jon Sobel – BlogCritics.org

Founded by Jacksonville Florida native Walter Parks, Swamp Cabbage presents a three piece soundtrack to a voyage through Northeast Florida palmetto thickets and Southeast Georgia gator marshes. Swamp Cabbage is true Americana roots music.

Walter’s electric guitar style is a mélange of Scott Joplin’s ragtime and Jerry Reed’s bayou pickin. Jim DeVito’s bass barks like a tuba through a fuzz box and Jagoda drums like he’s leadin’ a New Orleans funeral parade.

Swamp Cabbage’s song “American Guns Theme Song” derived from “Tallahassee” off their 2004 release HONK is used as the theme song to the Discovery Channel reality show “American Guns”. You can also hear Swamp Cabbage on My Big Redneck Wedding, Man Vs. Food, Emeril Green, Extreme Pig Outs, Gene Simmons Family Jewels, Roadtrip Nation (PBS), Samantha Brown Passport, Amazing Wedding Cakes and Chasing Classic Cars.

The group has four CDs – the self released debut “Honk” in 2006, “Squeal” released in 2008 on the ZOHO Roots label, and the 2010 “LIVE FROM NEW YORK ON THE IN TUNE”. In June 2012 Swamp Cabbage will be releasing their fourth recording, “DRUM ROLL PLEASE”.
