An experiment…… is the best way The ReChords can describe their latest recorded offering.
The upcoming 4 track EP, ‘It Won’t Be Long’ has been in the making since early 2012 and came about from a chance meeting with Music Producer, Lindsay Gravina of Birdland Studios in Prahran early last year. Through some discussion back & forth with Lindsay it was decided that the full modern production approach be applied to this particular project as in the past the lads have preferred the more ‘organic’ approach and recorded traditionally the way of analogue, valve and ‘live’ takes with just some minor overdubs. The vibe from the bands live performances is what was attempting to be achieved, it’s sometimes the ‘holy grail’ for some acts that shine through more in a live situation than others that tend to be more suited to studio sounds and with the growing appeal of this bands music and expanding fanbase they wanted to push the boundaries that little bit further in their recording. It’s a fine line of not necessarily wanting to sound too heavy and become thrown into a Living End or Reverend Horton Heat category and yet somehow still trying to stay true to the niche sound the boys have been building with the traditional influence, 2 & 3 part harmonies and the uniqueness of no drums. So speaking of drums….yep, you will hear on these 4 tracks the addition of something that is not common in a Rechords live performance, but for this project alone it was a suggestion they happily agreed to and will be always be a moment captured in the bands history. But for the future of drums as a regular in the bands lineup…..I doubt it, they work so well without them, why mess with a good thing. The band has been performing all over Australia since 2009, from Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and soon, Tasmania not to mention a multitude of local shows in their hometown of Melbourne and all round regional Victoria. They’ve shared the stage with many a band and varied too, from roots to reggae, pop and rock nothing is too far left of centre for these boys as long as they dig it. With their first recording circulating on a split CD in early 2010 shared with The Salt Flat Trio they soon followed that up with their own debut album, ‘On The Wagon’ released in Sep 2010 pressing another run of 1000 units in 2012 after selling out their first 1000. And recently in late 2013 the lads released a limited edition 7 inch Vinyl titled ‘Bottom of the Barrel’ (out on Spanish label El Toro Records) that they recorded in Berlin whilst on their first European Tour back in Sep 2011…..so now they’re heading back for a return tour again to Europe from 22nd May till 11th June, 2013.
So let’s hear it for experimental ReCHORDS Americana madness!!!!!
