The Braeded Chord is the award-winning team of songwriters Sharon Dennis and Doris Au MacDonald. Based in the DC/VA area, they perform locally, tour, and have released six CDs of all-original work. Together they create songs that draw from multiple genres and are noted for their thought-provoking lyrics, strong melodic lines and frequent interjections of musical humor. Two of their songs, "Rainbowland" and "I Will Wait," received recognition in the 2004 Mid-Atlantic Song Competition and the Great American Songwriting Contest. In 2005, their song "O Tiny Child" was a semifinalist in both the UK Songwriting Contest and the 2005 Mid-Atlantic Song Competition. "On the Wings of Your Song" and "In the Arms of Infinity", both songs from the Radio Lane CD, were recognized in the 2006 Mid-Atlantic Song Competition. They received seven WAMMIEs (Washington Area Musicians Association awards), three for Best Gospel/Inspirational Recording (Long Awaited King, Follow the Cross and Radio Lane) and four for Best Gospel/Inspirational Group.
Dennis and MacDonald of The Braeded Chord could be your typical Northern Virginia suburban mom music duo-- their kids were in the same class, they lived in the same neighborhood, and worked together in a church worship band. Sharon, a former petroleum engineer, is a gifted lyricist who grew up playing guitar, studying french, writing poetry, and excelling in math and sports. While Sharon comes from Alexandria, VA, Doris is from California, and grew up singing in numerous ensembles and choirs, had a classical training in piano, opportunities to live and travel abroad, and studied to be an elementary school teacher. They draw on their diverse backgrounds to produce a sound that is both unique and universal, appealing to all generations. Their music has taken them to Kenya, Haiti and Lebanon.
