2015 and still playing every Thursday night at Dan's Hall and often at dances, markets, garden parties and fundraisers in the Victoria area and on the nearby Gulf Islands. Our two CDs will soon be joined by our third production, FRESH FROM DAN'S HALL - original tunes from The Dancehall Players - out early in 2016.
The story of The Dancehall Players started at Dan's Hall, attached to a 19th century farmhouse in Victoria. There, in 2001, regular Thursday evening English Country dances were established and live music was part of this venture from the beginning. At first, only Ann on piano and Dan on fiddle and mandolin were the house musicians, joined by visiting musical friends. Then Gregory (flute, guitar) and Susan (violin, recorder), Karen (cello), and Keith (violin) joined the group, and more recently Lael (recorder, percussion, guitar) and Aaron (violin, mandolin). We play in various combinations, whoever is available at the time - and always we are The Dancehall Players! For the last dozen years or so, the band has played for the Victoria English Dance Balls, the Mayne Island Ball, and periodically some of us are invited to join local musicians in Vancouver. This past year, we have appeared 4 times at Government House here in Victoria, the home of the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia - an elegant facility with a lovely ballroom - a gracious dancing experience. Always great fun and always live - and preferably acoustic!!
