A band of "classical string players and rockers who translate gothic-rock-opera ideas into dreamy, sinister-cabaret sounds behind deep, stylized vocals." - Chicago Reader, July 28, 2011
"Far Out" - Chicago Sun Times, January 7, 2011
"With a classical pedigree, the Dead Superheroes Orchestra revitalizes goth rock" - Chicago Maroon, January 7, 2011
The Dead Superheroes Orchestra must be heard to be believed. A rock ensemble with dazzling string arrangements and a pitch-black wit, the DSO will take you on a journey from your hometown cemetery, down to the depths of the Underworld, up to the cool, bare face of the moon, and back again. Dreamed up by brains steeped in Batman, Mozart, Dostoevsky and Dante, the Orchestra tells the tale of an angel and a boy who comes back from the dead.
Their performances are part rock show, part chamber recital and part gothic oratorio. A mad cacophony of strings, guitars, drums, piano, and choir led by a melodramatic bass voice, The Dead Superheroes Orchestra is a band that entertains, perplexes and entrances.
DSO has performed in Boston, Milwaukee, St. Louis and at many venerable Chicago venues including Mayne Stage, The Empty Bottle, Martyrs’ and the Abbey. They have performed with national touring acts Rasputina, Conjure One, Larkin Grimm and Architect. DSO has performed as part of the Abbie Hoffman Died for our Sins Theater Festival, and their music has been played on local Chicago radio stations. The Dead Superheroes Orchestra were included in Mick Mercer’s book, “Music to Die for,”, published by Cherry Red Press.
