The Figments

Biography

The Figments started going steady after being set up on a blind date. Twelve years later, they are still advocates of the "open marriage" model. In autumn of '95, through an avalanche of happenstance, the four Figments found themselves in the same room for the first time. Looking around at the potluck of carnage (tupperwear, stuntmen, lesson plans, expensive lampshades, baconhearts, etc etc) they had no choice but count it off slowly. And repeatedly. Welcome to Northampton, MA. Do you feel like we do? The history of the band can be divided into something resembling this: 1996-97--record and release debut ep The Figments Won't Hurt You. Recorded at Studio .45, Hartford, CT by David Shuman and Thom Monahan. (some of this ep would resurface on "Broken Time" cd) 1998-2001--various sessions (with T. Monahan, Frank Padellaro, David Shuman), tons of gigs. NYC becomes second home. Broken Time is sort of released. All the Gone Days is very much released. 2002-2005-- wha happened? marriage, prostitution, "Rehab", divorce, Lindens. No, the band as a whole didn't take well to (choose one) neo-fascism; Bjork's a cappella album; Jennifer Aniston's inability to settle down. 2006--Blood forms on the clouds. No one has any gauze so... 2007--Blood on the Clouds is released. Recorded by David Shuman. Though fate has often tried to intercede, The Figments have held on to the same line up for 12 years. Thane Thomsen- songs, voice, guitar Matthew Zapruder- guitar, voice Trace Meek- bass, voice Brian Marchese- drums, percussion Only half the band are any good on ice skates. www.thefigmentsrock.com
