The Friersons have been musically talented family for over 46 years inspired by their parents, Essie and Joe Frierson, Sr. They traveled throughout the south with Joe Frierson, Sr. as a member of the Queen City Gospel Singers of Kingstree, SC. As the family continued to grow each child was taught how to sing and harmonize thus becoming The Frerson Singers.
The Frierson Singers recorded their first singles, 'Do What the Good Book Says' and 'God is a Just God' In 1971 they released 'He's Got Everything You Need' and 'The Problem is Sin', and in 1973 'Trying to Find Peace' received rave reviews throughout gospel radio and the community.
The Frierson Singers appeared in the movie "Dream Team" (1988), produced by Christopher Knight. The Frierson Singers also appeared on national and local television shows including Dr. Bobby Jones Gospel and Dr. Albert Lewis Gospel Hour. They have received outstanding commendation by the Municipal Council of the city of Newark for their contributions to the field of gospel music. The Frierson Singers have maintained the saying, "A Family that Prays Together, Stays Together". They are active members of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Newark, NJ, where Rev. Dr. Elton T. Byrd is pastor and founder, and The James Cleveland Workshop of America.
Life changed for The Frierson Singers due to the death of their father, Joe Frierson, Sr. and their sister Sarah Frierson-Armstrong, who was lead singer in the group. During this trying time, by the grace of God, Rev. Franklin Frierson, St. took the leadership role in keeping the group together. In 1997, Rev. Franklin Frierson, Sr. brought the family and friends together to record the album 'What Are They Doing Today' in memory of their father and sister. They began performing as The Frierson Family and Friends. After several years; they were requested to travel, and The Frierson Brothers emerged.
Over the years The Frierson Brothers have performed throughout the United States. In 2006, they performed at The House of Blues' Gospel Bunch in Atlantic City, NJ for several months. God has truly anointed the brothers and they are determined to do God's will by spreading his word through song. Derrick Lee produced their first CD as The Frierson Brothers 'Over There'; it was released August 2007. Unfortunately, brother Joe Frierson, Jr. passed in the year 2009. In August 2010 & 2011, they were blessed with the opportunity to headline for "Blues to Bop" tour in Lugano, Italy. The group members are Rev. Franklin Frierson, Sr., Rev. Frederick Frierson, Sr., Jerome Sykes, and Stacy Frierson and they have continued to move forward with the Blessings God has provided them. The Frierson Brothers will soon be releasing their second CD.
