Biography

The Hipwaders are a showcase for the kid-friendly songwriting of Tito Uquillas. In 2004, the band received a Parent's Choice Award for their first album, “The Smile Project”. The Hipwaders’ official self-titled debut album also won a Parents’ Choice Award and the band was nominated by XM Satellite Radio as one of the best new kid's' music acts of 2005.

In 2007, The Hipwaders released the album, "Educated Kid", and performed at the Lollapalooza Festival, in Chicago. The album was voted #5 best album of the year in the “Fids and Kamily” poll. The title track went to #1 on the XMKids Radio and the band was invited to perform live at XM Satellite Studios in Washington DC.

In 2008, the band received Childrens Music Web Awards for both of their previous albums and was invited to perform at the annual "Rock and Blues Festival” at the Snowbird resort in Utah.

In 2009, The Hipwaders released their EP, “Goodie Bag”, for which About.com’s Warren Truitt had called, “One of the best kid’s albums of 2009, so far”.

“A Kindie Christmas”, was released during the 2009 Holiday season and won a NAPPA Honors Award in 2010 (“The Little Miss Sunshine of kids cds”) after receiving numerous enthusiastic reviews e.g., “’Wake Up’…may just be the best 2 minutes of rock-n-roll Christmas tunage ever.” – Out With the Kids

In 2010, The Hipwaders performed at “Kindiefest” in Brooklyn, NY – a family music industry-only showcase where they were one of the few acts chosen to perform from well over a hundred acts.

“The Golden State”, was released August 2nd, 2011, with engineer/producer Willie Samuels (Green Day, Kronos Quartet) at the helm. The album won a NAPPA Gold Award and made many Top 10 lists for 2011 put together by Kids/Family music reviewers. The School Library Journal stated that "this Bay Area band's latest album belongs in every library's music collection."

The Hipwaders continue to perform for kids and families throughout the U.S. including Bay Area children’s hospitals, pediatric wards, George Mark Children’s Hospice, fairs, festivals, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and California’s Great America.

Their music can be heard on NBC, History Channel, MTV, Planet Green, TruTV, Current TV, Animal Planet, VH1, Discovery Health, TLC, The Style Network, PBS, Super Station, E!, Womens Entertainment, SiTV, OLN, Bravo, HGTV, CMTV, and the Travel Channel.
