THE KINGS OF FROG ISLAND were formed in 2003 by Mark Buteux, Roger “Dodge” Watson (Scum Pups), Tony Heslop and Mathew Bethancourt (Cherry Choke, Josiah & The Beginning). Gavin Searle and Lee Madel-Toner joined for the follow up album II, recorded on the 6/6/6. Matthew Bethancourt departed in 2010 to concentrate on Cherry Choke, but continued working with Kings Buteux and Searle on the recording of Cherry Choke's follow up album "A Night in the Arms of Venus".
Drawing on a collective passion for cult movie soundtracks and mammoth riffs the Kings write and record atmospheric sonic soundscapes, designed to draw the listener in and take them on a trip, a rocket ride across the mountains of madness.
Many other musicians feature across the albums: Matthew Day, Julia Dream, Gavin Wright and Gregg Hunt (Cherry Choke & Obscure Ivresse).
The revolving doors approach taken by the Kings has given them the freedom to continue evolving and producing music. In this collective, dictated by the sum of its parts, only the strongest ideas survive.
