Biography

"A giant of the not-too-distant future," declared the Los Angeles Times of bassist/composer/producer Larry Steen. A winner of the International Society of Bassists’ Jazz Competition, Steen earned a Bachelor of Music degree (Magna Cum Laude) in Studio Music and Jazz from the University of Miami in Florida after attending the renowned Berklee College of Music, as well as a Master of Fine Arts degree in Jazz and African-American Music Performance from the California Institute of the Arts (CALARTS). He has performed live and in the studio with artists that include Mel Torme, Ella Fitzgerald, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, Dionne Warwick, Barry Manilow, Melissa Manchester and Jimmy Buffet. He has also recorded extensively for film, television, radio and CDs which include his own ASCAP, award winning, world jazz releases First Move and View From Afar (LarrySteenmusic.com). Jimmy Haslip (of the Yellowjackets) was the executive producer of First Move which features jazz luminaries Ernie Watts, Dave Weckl and Jeff Beal.
