The Little German Band of State College PA

The Little German Band of State College, Pennsylvania was founded more than 50 years ago in 1961, and is structured in the style typical of brass bands from the region surrounding Munich, Germany. The band’s repertoire features German polkas, waltzes, marches, authentic German folk songs plus a mix of American dance and novelty tunes. Much of the repertoire consists of original arrangements written specifically for The Little German Band.

The Little German Band has performed extensively throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern United States. These performances have included the Baron Von Steuben Day Parade in New York City, the famous Octoberfest in Baltimore, Maryland, the Barnesville Festival in Reading, Pennsylvania and an Octoberfest festival at the popular Clyde's Restuarant of Columbia, Maryland.

Based in the central Pennsylvania area, the band has performed in the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, the People’s Choice Arts and Crafts Festival, marched in gubernatorial inauguraton parades in Harrisburg, and played for many athletic events at the Pennsylvania State University. The Little German Band performs regularly for our local summer concert series as well as a myriad of local community/private events. One of the most memorable highlights for the band was a performance at a private party held for former President Jimmy Carter in Spruce Creek, PA.

Some 30 community business professionals, professors, students, and retirees comprise the current roster of The Little German Band. Several of these musicians have been with the band since its founding. The band typically appears in authentic German lederhosen.
