The Masterwork Chorus is best known for its annual performances of Handel’s Messiah in Carnegie Hall in New York. Dedicated to performance of works of classical masters, other performances in recent years have included highly acclaimed performances of Rachmaninov’s" Vespers", Faure’s "Requiem" , Orffs "Carmina Burana" and Bach’s "Mass in B Minor". The 90 voice choir is active in both professional performance, and bringing music to its local community. This is the first CD to be made available to the public in the 55 year history of the chorus.
Andrew Megill, Music Director of the Masterwork Chorus, also serves as Associate Professor at Westminster Choir College of Rider University, Director of Choral Activities for the Carmel (CA) Bach Festival, and is Artistic Director of Fuma Sacra, one of America's leading professional ensembles specializing in Renaissance and Baroque vocal music. He has prepared choruses for performances with ensembles such as the New York Philharmonic, Dresden Philharmonie, Cleveland Orchestra, and for conductors including Pierre Boulez, Joseph Flummerfelt, Alan Gilbert, Jane Glover, Kurt Masur, and Bruno Weil.
J.D. Burnett, Associate Director, enjoys a varied career as a conductor, singer and educator. Mr. Burnett, is on the music staff of the New Jersey Youth Chorus, teaches on the choral music faculty of Montclair State University and is Artistic Director for the burgeoning ensemble Kinnara. As a professional choral singer, he has performed and recorded with Cantare Houston, The Santa Fe Desert Chorale, The Robert Shaw Festival Singers, the Choir of Trinity Church Wall Street, the Oregon Bach Festival Chorus, and the Grammy nominated group Conspirare. Mr Burnett holds a Masters Degree from Westminster Choir College.
