Depending on who you ask The Mortimer are described as quirky rock like Weezer or melodic epic rock balladeers such as Athlete or Coldplay.
Rich was wandering through the halls of Collingwood College, Durham, and heard Beatles music coming from a room. The following day, while wandering the same corridors, he heard a guitar being played in the same room and decided to knock on the door......
The guitarist turned out to be Ben and he and Rich clicked instantly. Ben introduced Rich to Jon and Matt, also budding musicians, and played their first gig six weeks later. The band began gigging in earnest and when Rich's friend Marco also joined The Mortimer was born.
The Mortimer headlined at The Half Moon, Putney, pulling in the biggest crowd, for an unsigned band, since records began!
Now they've been playing major London venues and came third in the Wanadoo Discoveries competition, as voted for by Joe Public.
Brilliant songwriting, nice guitar riffs and those wonderful bridges and third parts. This is really songwriting of the very first class.
