The New Young Christian Travelers

Biography

The New Young Christian Travelers is a traditional quartet gospel group from Monticello, MS. Group members are Michael Watkins, Rev. Melvin Pittman, Rev. George Varnado, Fred Bridges, Chris Williams, Tevin Stewart, Byron Hammond, and Jaydrian Clark. The original group was named the The Young Christian Travelers that was started in 1996 by Michael Watkins and Antonio Pittman. The group consisted of cousins from Bethany Missionary Baptist Church in Jayess, MS where the pastor was the late Rev. L.S. Sartin Jr. The group was reformed in 2007 after all of the musicians left the group to play with another gospel group. Another tragic blow to the group came when pastor Sartin died that same year. The group was reformed when Rev, Pittman, Michael, and Fred decided to go on with what they had. George Varnado a founding member of the True Believers out of McComb, MS was asked to become the lead singer. Pastor Waldo Lilly Jr., lead vocalist of the Mississippi Mass Choir, became pastor of Bethany M.B. Church and encouraged the group to continue on. Then miraculously four members were added to the group with the last member being Jaydrian Clark the drummer and son of Pastor Phillip Clark, former member of the Bolton Brothers. Since then the group has won numerous awards and has been performing at a high level. They've traveled Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, and New York free of charge. Please support these young men by purchasing their album.
