The Rafters are an ongoing musical experiment to meld different styles of music such as Southern rock, Blues, Jazz and improvisational Jamming, in a unified format that promotes self-expression and spontaneous creation. To the Rafters, jamming is a about taking an idea, a theme, a note, a whim and passing it around, breaking it up, putting it together, turning it over and flying with it as far as possible, out of sight, never retreating. The music the Rafters make is all about the creative process, jamming, and providing a musical landscape that people can dance, smile, laugh, cry and heal with……sometimes out front, and sometimes behind the scene.
After a very successful release of the band's 1st album "Behind the Scene” in summer of 2007, The Rafters have just released there 2nd CD called “Colourful Freedom”. The band has had a chance to really define it’s sound, identity, and character bringing some of the best music from the good ole' Texas roots Rock and Roll, Blues, Soul, and Jam band era. The band is very unique in its ability to be highly creative as highlighted in the title track “Colourful Freedom” another example is in the deeply rooted Blues tune track titled “Day to Day” this track will make you personally relate with the song. The band has been playing together for over 3 years mainly in Texas and in Houston. The Rafters have truly developed their own unique sound that will leave you wanting to hear more.
The sound of The Rafters can best be described as the following: “Dynamic vocals” by the lead singer coupled with “perfect harmonies” make the lyrics just stand out, after that you have “A one-two punch with two exceptional lead guitar players just “playing it to the bone”, driven by “chest thumping bass lines” and “heavy hitting rocking rhythmic beat” of the drums, and then final touches put on by the “footing stomping” percussion section make this CD a must purchase.
Hearing The Rafters will make you realize you are hearing a one of a kind unique sound. The live performances will make you want to get out and dance and have some fun! Enjoy this fine CD!
