Kenny Banks and Mr. Q. from The Rhythm Makers are back again with their debut album Rebirth. Free Tonight is the first single being released from the album. This is the reunion that everyone has been waiting for!
The Rhythm Makers & GQ was first formed as a quartet. The group later on became The Rhythm Makers, playing primarily funk music. The Rhythm Makers was composed of Emanuel R. LeBlanc, aka Mr. Q. (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Keith “Sabu” Crier (bass and vocals), Kenny Banks (drums and vocals), Herb Lane (keyboards and vocals), and Benny Ramsey (singer and manager of the group).
Their first album, titled Soul on Your Side, produced a major international dance floor hit, Zone.
The group underwent another name change and became known as GQ, which means good quality. GQ became successful playing music representative of the period’s disco influenced sound.
They had several highly ranked singles in multiple markets (US Pop, US R&B, US Disco/Club). Their biggest hit was Disco Nights (Rock Freak), a single from their debut album Soul on Your Side. The song reached #1 on the R&B singles chart in two weeks, #3 on the Hot Dance Club Play, and #12 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track also peaked at #42 on the UK singles chart. The follow-up Billy Stewart remake, I Do Love You, was also successful, reaching #20 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Original band members of The Rhythm Makers, Kenny Banks and Mr. Q will be performing together at upcoming shows.
