The Sallys, formerly known as Sally's Rejex; started out as a 5-piece
poppunk band in 2004 infusing Two-Tone Ska and Reggae rhythms
that saw them combining deviations of several music genres over
the years which included Brit Rock, Pop and Third Wave Ska and
eventually bringing them to what they are today; a 6-piece band
drawing influences from The Specials, Bob Marley, Blink 182, Lifehouse, Tokyo Ska Paradise, No Doubt etc.
The band produced their first 9-track EP "Oh Sally" in 2005 and had
been first spotted and featured in Mediacorp's now-defunct Radio
Singapore International for the promotion of the release. They were
selected to play in Baybeats in 2007, Singapore largest indie music
festival, attracting 70, 000 audience whose nominations had made
them the 2nd most favourite band of the said festival that year.
Their hit single, "Lady Marmalade" made national acclaim with
thousands downloading it as mobile ringtones, and the track making
its waves in Singapore radio stations including 98.7FM; WARNA
94.2FM and RIA 89.7FM Additionally, the track was selected as a 30-
second sampler in one of MTV Asia music commercials and they too,
were featured in Channel NewsAsia as well as SPH's national malay
newspaper, Berita Harian.
On November 28th, 2008, the band released their debut
album “Fairytale, An Unlikely Story” at The Esplanade Outdoor
Theatre to a full-house audience. A re-enhanced version of Lady
Marmalade as well as another two tracks; Viana & My Love
(Acoustic) premiered in 98.7FM.
In February and March 2009, Jelita and Kopi Dangdut, the band's
only two Malay songs from the album debuted in RIA 89.7FM official
Top 20 weekly charts at No.14 and No.2 respectively. In the same
year, they were nominated for “Most Popular Singapore Artiste” in
Anugerah Planet Muzik 2009. In April 2009, the band released a new
single, Gadis Marmalade, a Malay translation of Lady Marmalade.
The band has consistently achieved the No.1 spot on Myspace.com
Top Singapore Artistes chart. Berita Harian listed The Sallys as
the top 10 acts to catch at Mosaic Music Festival 2009 which they
debuted at The Esplanade in March to much fanfare with their album
selling out on the day of their performance.
Year 2010 was the defining year for The Sallys where they were
nominated for “Best New Duo/Group” in AnugerahHitz, Singapore's
first local Malay music awards show. They were also featured in
Suria's Hitz.sg variety programme.
They were also the nominees for Anugerah Planet Muzik(Regional
Malay Muzik Awards) in their category, “Singapore’s Most Popular
Artist” alongside with Taufik Batisah for two consecutive years, 2010
and 2011. Recently, The Sallys were nominated in "Singapore's Most Popular Song" in 2012 for the song collaboration with The Lion Story.
On 2nd March 2013, They released their 2nd Full length album in Malay language entitled, 'SQUAD 69'. Their songs manage to be in the radio's top 10 charts right after the release.
