Q: Who’s the Not Bros. Band?
A: The Not Bros. Band is the “electrified” incarnation of Stokes County NC's longstanding and nebulous acoustic music brotherhood, The Not Brothers.
With the Bros., “live music” may be an understatement; it’s always more of a party than just a show. Style-wise, the NBB leaves few stones unturned: you’ll hear their new original Carolina Beach Music along with the very best classic Beach, old school R&B, some classic rock and funk, and maybe even a touch of classic country.
Much like the best kind of party, going to an NBB show means you may not know who all’s showing up or what exactly will happen next, but it’s always a guaranteed good time.
Who’s the Bros. in the Band?
The core of the Not Bros. Band is John Dearmin, vocals and guitar; Jim Smith, rhythm guitars and vocals; David George, bass guitar and vocals; and Strother Bullins, drums. Local legend guitarist Trey Childress (Five 2 One) regularly joins the Bros. live and performs all lead electric guitars as well as Hammond synth on Songs of the Summer. Finally, saxophonist/horn arranger Matt Kosma (The Embers, Matt Kosma Quartet) and trumpeter Lynn Grissett (Matt Kosma Quartet) lend their significant skills to Songs of the Summer. Most notably, these five “songs of the summer” were written entirely between Dearmin and Smith.
